A practical and people-focused approach to growing data confidence across teams
Earlier this month, we had the pleasure of delivering two Power BI workshops with the dedicated staff at Ballarat Community Health (BCH) — one Essentials, and one Intermediate session — both hosted at BCH’s Sebastopol Centre.
BCH is committed to building internal data skills so that more of their team can work confidently and independently with their own data. Over the two sessions, we guided participants through the Power BI interface, taught core concepts in visual analytics, and ran practical exercises tailored to their level and use cases.
We covered a broad range of topics:
-
Best practice in data visualisation and layout
-
Connecting to and exploring datasets
-
Data cleaning using PowerQuery
-
Designing meaningful visualisations
-
A gentle introduction to DAX formulas
Each session combined demonstration, hands-on activities, and small projects. Participants worked through survey data, fictional patient data, and mini-scenarios — all in a supportive and collaborative setting.
“You could see the moment it clicked for people. They weren’t just learning a tool; they were thinking about how it could help their work.”
The group brought a real sense of purpose to the training. Even those newer to Power BI quickly saw the value in how visualisation and interactivity could bring their data to life.
A special thank you to Tina from BCH for coordinating both sessions and trusting us to guide this journey. The workshops were co-facilitated by myself and Clifford, and delivered entirely in person.
We’re excited to see how BCH continues using Power BI to improve visibility, inform decisions, and grow data capability across the organisation.
If your team is looking to build Power BI confidence through practical, engaging workshops — we’d love to hear from you.
